Dynamo Dresden brings striker Vermeij from Fortuna Düsseldorf!

There is hardly any bigger news in the football summer than the signing of a new striker, and that is exactly what Dynamo Dresden has now achieved with the Dutch attacker Vincent Vermeij (31). The transfer from Fortuna Düsseldorf is finally official and the rumors of the past few weeks have now been confirmed. Robert-Koch-Straße will now become Vermeij's new place of work after the medical check in Dresden was successfully completed on Monday morning.

From Tuesday, the 1.96 meter tall striker will train with his new colleagues in the Ostragehege for the first time. Speculation about his move began two weeks ago when Vermeij visited the training center in Dresden and had initial discussions with coach Thomas Stamm, with whom he had already worked for two years at SC Freiburg II. Picture reports that the transfer fee for the striker is estimated at around 250,000 euros. While Vermeij's contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf ran until 2026, he did not leave the club for a free transfer.

A new fight for position

Vermeij will take on the challenge of duel for the center forward position at Dynamo Dresden. He is confronted, among others, with Christoph Daferner (27), who played a crucial role in the promotion team in the last third division season with 18 goals and five assists. The two players have already played together for Düsseldorf in the second half of the 2023/24 season and now they could form a strong attack for Dynamo.

The timing of the transfer couldn't be better, as Vermeij was not in the squad for Fortuna's 2-0 defeat against Hannover on Saturday, which further fueled speculation about his move. The old contract didn't really fit anymore either, especially after the club signed Cedric Itten (28) last week. Offensive reinforcement is therefore urgently needed in order to achieve the desired goal of the third division season.

Previous achievements and prospects

Vermeij has had impressive statistics in the past: he scored 48 goals in 120 third division games, while he scored 13 times in 50 second division games. He brings a promising experience with him to Dresden. Apart from Dynamo, other clubs such as MSV Duisburg, Rot-Weiss Essen, SC Paderborn and Arminia Bielefeld were also interested in the striker. Ultimately, however, the selection remained in the Saxon state capital.

Dynamo Dresden has done a good deal to strengthen the squad for the upcoming challenges in the third division. The upcoming games in the league will show whether the new striker can fully exploit his potential and take the team further forward.
