Violence at the main train station: pepper spray and stabbings shock!

Last weekend, several incidents of assault rocked Dresden Central Station and Neustadt Station. The Federal Police Inspectorate in Dresden was on constant duty to ensure the safety of travelers and to prosecute criminal acts. Particularly explosive: A dispute between two Syrian nationals escalated when an 18-year-old man used pepper spray. This resulted in an uninvolved 10-year-old child being injured, making the situation even more dramatic. How L-IZ reported, there were numerous other incidents that took place in the same days.

On Saturday evening, June 15, 2025, around 6:55 p.m., the situation in the main station came to a head. A DB security employee became aware of the incident, but the perpetrator continued to use his irritant gas. The consequences were devastating, as travelers and Deutsche Bahn employees also inhaled the gas. Meanwhile, the 18-year-old was already known to the police as having a previous conviction in similar cases. Criminal proceedings for bodily harm were immediately initiated. Another incident, which took place around 1:20 p.m., involved a 31-year-old Afghan man punching a fellow countryman of the same age. This incident also led to a criminal complaint Day24 reported.

Worrying developments

The current situation in German train stations is alarming. According to new police figures, there were already over 10,600 reported physical injuries in train stations in 2024, which represents an increase compared to the previous year. A look back at 2023 shows that there were 10,115 such incidents during this period. Deutsche Bahn has invested heavily in security measures, with over 200 million euros flowing into the safety of travelers every year. In addition, around 6,000 federal police and 4,500 security forces are on duty around the clock daily news reported.

The incident in Dresden highlights the high susceptibility to violent confrontations in train stations, which are regularly frequented by millions of travelers. It is not an isolated case: the social climate is influenced by such incidents not only in Dresden, but in train stations and trains nationwide. Measures such as increasing video cameras are a step in the right direction to protect travelers and increase security.
