New in Brüdergasse: Epirus impresses with Greek delicacies!
In the small Brüdergasse in Dresden, not far from the Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski, the Greek restaurant Epirus has been open its doors since the end of 2023. It has taken over the space of Miss Zhao’s Kitchen, which was previously known as a dumpling restaurant. The new Greek restaurant seems to have integrated well into the offerings of the small street, which is home to several restaurants. But how does it fare in terms of food and ambience?
Visiting on a Tuesday evening, the atmosphere in Epirus was rather modest. The restaurant was only lightly attended, which may have been due to the time of day or the restaurant's recent popularity. The drinks menu mainly featured Retsina, a traditional Greek wine, which we only found available as an exception. Instead we opted for a regional wine, the price of which was 32 euros for 0.7 liters.
Delicious starters and main courses
The culinary introduction was with the Mezedes Mix, which offered good value for money for 9.50 euros. The generous portion included various dips and grilled vegetables that tasted impressive. Still, the gyros, served with tzatziki (which was praised for its creaminess and spice), didn't stand out as entirely positive; it was described as dry and lightly seasoned.
The main dishes at Epirus offer a wide selection. Prices range between 14 euros for the popular moussaka and up to 29.50 euros for the mixed plate. We also tried the chicken souvlaki skewer (19 euros) and were happy with the side dishes such as garlic potatoes and rice (4.50 euros each). Overall, the restaurant received an overall score of 6.8 out of 10, with the food and service receiving 7 points each and the ambience falling slightly with 6 points.
Popularity of Greek restaurants
Greek restaurants are already very popular in Germany. According to information from greekrestaurant.com, characteristics of a good Greek restaurant are fresh ingredients, traditional preparation and a Mediterranean flair. This combination makes Greek dishes such as gyros, moussaka, souvlaki and tzatziki an experience that is appealing to the senses. Vegetarians don't miss out either: stuffed grape leaves and Greek salad are also widespread.
Whether in Cologne, where the Kavala restaurant offers traditional Greek dishes, or in Frankfurt, where there are 45 Greek restaurants alone, the variety is great and the appeal of Mediterranean cuisine remains unbroken. It has been shown that Greek restaurants are often invitingly decorated, with traditional decorations and often live music, which contributes to a successful dinner.
The Epirus in the small Brüdergasse joins the ranks of Greek gastronomy and does its part to pass on the fascination and culinary heritage of Greece. If you are looking for a place for joyful gatherings or just for delicious Greek food, you might find what you are looking for here, although the ambience and food might be convincing in some aspects.
