Renovation on the A4 and A13 near Dresden: traffic turmoil from July 15th!

Drivers around Dresden will have to prepare for some inconveniences in the coming weeks. In a recent press release, Autobahn AG announced that road rehabilitation on the A4 and A13 will begin soon. The construction work is particularly focused on the crossing from the A4 to the A13 towards Berlin. The reason for the renovations is significant damage to the roadway, which urgently needs to be repaired Sächsische.de reported.

During the work, traffic heading towards Berlin will only pass the construction site in one lane. From July 15th, 8 p.m., until July 27th, the entrance and exit from the Dresden-Airport junction in the direction of Berlin will be completely closed. From July 28th, motorists should be able to use the exit again, while the driveway is expected to remain closed until August 7th. Traffic arriving in the direction of Dresden will be redirected at the Dresden-Hellerau junction, while departing vehicles will be routed via the Marsdorf junction.

Large construction sites require patience

The upcoming renovation is not the only challenge for drivers in the region. As early as 2022, extensive construction work took place on a section of the A4 between Dresden-West and Neustadt Tag24.de reported. Around three kilometers of the road in the direction of Görlitz was also renovated, which already caused significant traffic jams and disruptions. Between 80,000 and 130,000 vehicles travel there every day - a number that has increased by around 25,000 in the last five years.

Around a third of the traffic consists of heavy goods vehicles, which further complicates the situation. Here too, thorough renovation was necessary to repair cracks and damage. The use of mastic asphalt instead of removed concrete shows that efforts are being made to ensure sustainability in the construction work, as the old concrete is reused for other construction projects. The costs for the renovation amounted to around eight million euros.

Road safety in focus

In addition to the renovation projects already mentioned, it is also evident on other motorway sections, for example the A111 in Berlin, that many road infrastructures urgently need to be renewed. DEGES is planning several major projects here to improve traffic safety and reduce air pollutants and noise. Too often, traffic jams and traffic disruptions result in 180,000 to 230,000 vehicles having to use alternative routes every day, further exacerbating the situation.

The upcoming work on the motorways in Dresden is part of a comprehensive plan to improve long-term traffic conditions. Even if uncertain construction times and possible traffic jams lie ahead, traffic safety and the quality of life of residents in the affected areas will ultimately benefit. In this regard, it is important to test drivers' patience - the new and improved roads will be worth it.
