Closures and disruptions: traffic chaos on Dresden's highways!

In the early hours of next Tuesday, the entrance to the Dresden-Südvorstadt junction in the direction of Prague will be temporarily closed. The reason for this is necessary work on overhead electrical lines, which requires a complete shutdown for the entire day of Tuesday, June 17th. This closure is expected to impact traffic flow as diversions will need to be put in place to direct motorists around the affected area. In addition, restrictions are also expected at the entrance and exit area of the junction to the B170, which will further slow down traffic, as MDR reports.

If that weren't enough, complete traffic stops on this route are planned between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Wednesday. It is therefore worth reconsidering your route or, if necessary, starting earlier to minimize waiting times. Commuters in particular should keep an eye on traffic during this time.

Current traffic situation in Saxony

Current traffic warnings show that disruptions and accidents occur again and again in Saxony. Today, on June 16, 2025, the Saxony Police reported several disruptions on the highways. An accident site was cleared on the A4 between Chemnitz and Dresden, and there was also a traffic jam on the A17 towards Prague due to an accident. However, most of the danger reports, such as the incident on the A14 between Nossen and Leipzig, have now been refuted, so that traffic is free again here.

But it's not just accidents that cause traffic problems. Unpleasant surprises can currently be expected on the B6 between Bennewitz and Wurzen, as larger animals, especially horses, have been spotted on the road. Drivers should exercise particular caution here and drive slower if necessary.

Long-term construction sites and their effects

In addition to the acute traffic disruptions, there are also numerous construction sites that entail restrictions for a longer period of time. On the A4 towards Chemnitz between the Dresden-West triangle and the Dresdner Tor Nord service area, the left lane will be closed until July 22, 2025. In addition, there are construction sites active at various points on the A72 and A17, which will cause additional traffic restrictions, as the Traffic Statistics Saxony has summarized.

  • A4 Prag Richtung Chemnitz: Baustelle, linker Fahrstreifen gesperrt bis 22.07.2025
  • A17 Dresden Richtung Prag: Baustelle, rechter Fahrstreifen gesperrt bis 19.06.2025
  • B101 Priestewitzer Straße: Vollsperrung bis 31.12.2025

With the constant input from the permanent counting points in the Free State of Saxony mentioned here, an accurate picture of traffic flows is created. This is important for planning future measures to improve transport infrastructure and identifying potential bottlenecks.

The current reports make it clear how important it is to take a look at the traffic situation before setting off. Users of motorways and federal roads in Saxony should therefore inform themselves in good time and, if necessary, plan their routes in order to avoid unnecessary stress and long waiting times.
