E-bike theft in Görlitz: perpetrators steal an expensive bike!
There are currently some interesting but also worrying developments in the Görlitz region. The current police ticker provides information about numerous incidents that provide an insight into the security situation in the area.
So reported Sächsische.de about a remarkable incident: Unknown perpetrators stole a Cannondale Quick Neo e-bike on Bismarckstrasse in Görlitz. The bike was secured with an Abus lock and has a total value of around 3,000 euros. The local criminal investigation service has already started an investigation to track down the perpetrators.
Traffic and crime situation
On December 30, 2024, a serious accident also occurred in the Rauden district when a black Mercedes AMG crashed. The vehicle, which was reported stolen, left the road for an unknown reason and ended up in a ditch. The amount of damage is estimated at around 50,000 euros. Witnesses reported the incident, but searches for the driver were unsuccessful according to Media Service Saxony.
Another incident that attracted attention was a rear-end collision on the B 96. Two people were injured when a 19-year-old driver drove into a Dacia that had previously had to brake. The total damage amounted to around 25,000 euros.
With regard to general crime in Germany, police crime statistics show a decline of 1.7% to around 5.84 million crimes in 2024. This trend is primarily due to the reduction in cannabis crimes as a result of its partial legalization. However, there is an increase in the number of crimes that affect people's sense of security, such as Statista reported.
General security situation
The most common crimes reported in the first few months of the year are thefts and property and counterfeit crimes. In 2024, the numerical statistics are particularly interesting as they show that the number of perpetrators under the age of 21 has decreased, while the number of non-German suspects has increased. This raises questions about the different influences on crime in the region.
In terms of the clearance rate, the number remained at 58%, slightly down compared to the previous year. Although there has been a decline in the number of suspects and crimes, the perception of insecurity among the population remains.
In summary, the security situation in Görlitz and the surrounding area remains tense. Despite positive developments in general crime statistics, there are still numerous incidents affecting both residents and visitors. During these challenging times, it remains important to remain vigilant and support local security authorities.
