Police uncover serious robbery in Zittau – suspect in custody!

There is exciting news in the Görlitz region that will make headlines on June 24, 2025. The police report several incidents affecting both crime and road safety. An outstanding event is the investigation of a serious robbery in Zittau, in which the criminal investigators from the Zittau-Oberland district were able to convict a suspect. He is currently in custody. Current information on accident and crime reports from Görlitz and the surrounding regions is also available and is evidence of the diverse police work in the region. These details are provided by Sächsische.de.

In addition, the Saxony police recently reported an extremely unfortunate incident in Bautzen. A 42-year-old man attacked a 50-year-old woman and her 24-year-old companion while trying to steal her bag on June 18, 2025. There was a violent attack in which the two women suffered minor injuries and were taken to hospital. The attacker was able to escape, but was later caught with the help of citizens after he also damaged several cars with a stick. Overall, there was damage of around 9,300 euros. The crime led to reports of robbery and property damage (Saxony Police).

Road safety in focus

In the current traffic situation, there was extensive control on the A4 motorway between Bautzen-West and Bautzen-Ost on June 18, 2025. 2,030 cars were checked, 74 of which were driving too fast. The fastest driver at 165 km/h had to expect a fine of 200 euros and a point on his account. In addition to the cars, 1,336 trucks were also checked, with 17 of them also speeding and all receiving warning fines. These measures show the police's consistent approach to increasing safety on the streets.

The police crime statistics (PKS) 2023 also showed that overall crime in Saxony is increasing, while general crime remains stable in a multi-year comparison. A total of 260,800 offenses were registered last year, an increase of 5.1% compared to the previous year. What is particularly worrying is the increase in brutality crimes and crimes against personal freedom (Regionalspiegel Sachsen).

Conclusion and outlook

The developments of the last few days make it clear that the security situation in the region is not stagnant, but presents challenges. The police are working hard to expand both prevention and response measures to enable citizens to live safely. The high clearance rates show that the efforts are having an effect. Nevertheless, the increase in crime remains an issue that affects us all and gives us food for thought.

It therefore remains to be seen how security measures will be adapted in the future to meet the challenges of the changing crime landscape. Stay informed and pay attention to your safety in everyday life.
