Reichenbach cheers: Fusion of Waldhufen and Vierkirchen stopped!
Görlitz, Deutschland - On July 10, 2025, the merger of the municipalities of Waldhufen and Vierkirchen is now finally off the table. The Dresden Administrative Court ruled in June that the merger under the name Waldhufen-Vierkirchen cannot be provisionally possible. This decision brings a number of consequences for the affected communities in the Görlitz district.
The district of Görlitz originally approved the merger at the end of 2024, and the association was planned to complete the association on January 1, 2024. However, the court made this approval a stroke in the case of the invoice and the city of Reichenbach, which feared for its administrative strength, rightly given. Mayor Carina Dittrich was relieved by the court decision, as there was a fear of a massive loss of administrative competence.
Details of the decision
In its decision, the 7th Chamber of the Administrative Court determined that the municipality of Vierkirchen must not escape from the administrative community with the city of Reichenbach and the municipality of Königshain. It is also not possible to move to the Administrative Association of Diehsa, which forest hooves wanted to belong in the future. This decision was brought about in an urgent application from Reichenbach, which the court considered admissible and justified. It also saw indications for a possible violation of the municipal self -government law of the city of Reichenbach. The decision of the district, which ordered the departure of Vierkirchen, could also have violated the Saxon Law on Local Cooperation.
The mayor of Vierkirchen, Andrea Weise, sees the results of a parallel citizens' decision of 2024, in which 80% of the eligible voters voted for the merger, as clear. Nevertheless, this had apparently found too little weight and attention to the preparations for the merger. The citizens: inside and the participants now have no choice but to wait for the next steps in the municipal council, which are to be discussed in July. Mayor Weise has already expressed great expectations.
The future of the communities
What is now at stake for the communities is far -reaching. An exit of Vierkirchen from the administrative community would have resulted in a loss of around 1600 inhabitants, which would have faltered the administrative structure of Reichenbach. In addition, the zip code of Vierkirchen remains identical to that of Reichenbach, which could offer a certain sense of continuity for the citizens. Pastor Andreas Fünfstück also emphasized that the parishes of Waldhufen and Vierkirchen are already merged, which makes the administrative situation a little more complicated.
Reichenbach now sees the challenge of deciding together with the district of Görlitz whether one would like to submit a complaint against the judgment of the administrative court or wait for clarification in the main proceedings. District spokesman Kevin Schlei warned that a final decision could possibly take years.
As long as the situation for the citizens: inside in Waldhufen and Vierkirchen is unsure. What is certain is that everyone involved must now keep an eye on the developments in order to be able to react quickly to changes.
