crime at a glance

Such incidents are part of a complex problem that influences crime development in Germany. The current statistics show both declines and increases in various offenses. According to statista.com, in 2024 there was a decline in crime by 1.7 % to around 5.84 million cases due to fewer cannabis delics after partialization. At the same time, however, there is an increase in crimes that affect people's feeling of security. The offenses against personal freedom, which also include sexual harassment, are particularly relevant here.

The clarification rate is 58 %, which is a slight decline compared to the previous year. However, the crime statistics only record the known and edited crimes, which means that a significant part remains in the dark field. All the more important is civil society efforts to draw attention to incidents such as those at the Görlitz train station and to prevent such acts from happening again in the future.
