Forest youth games inspire 400 children in East Saxony!
The 26th forest youth games took place in East Saxony on June 20, 2025, an initiative organized by Sachsenforst. Around 400 schoolchildren from the Neustadt forest district took part in this special event, which was carried out in different picturesque locations, including the Zittau Mountains in Olbersdorf, Graupa near Pirna, Neustadt in Saxony and Seeligstadt in Großharthau. The aim of these events is to bring nature closer to nature and to convey valuable knowledge of the forest, such as Sächsische.de
With numerous stations and a lovingly designed course, the children were accompanied by foresters and forest workers. Here they were able to learn interactively: from the different plants and animals to the enormous importance of the forest for humans to the necessary measures to maintain this valuable resource. Forest district manager René Klabes underlined the importance that children experience the forest with all their senses in order to develop a deeper understanding of this habitat.
a playful access to nature
The forest youth games not only offer a special school day in the forest, but also an exciting opportunity to playfully learn about the forest living space. A program is offered especially for students in the 3rd and 4th grades, which is directed by foresters and forest workers. Among other things, the children learn the need to preserve the forest and the various benefits that it has for us humans, such as forest pedagogy Sachsen
For the pupils of the 6th grade, there is the opportunity to slip into the role of a forester. Here you have to deal with the management of the forest and take into account different aspects such as user, protection and recreational functions. At stations such as "forest care" and "wooden sale", a sustainable handling of natural resources is also conveyed in a playful way, which is more than just theory.
forest pedagogy as the key to sustainable development
The forest youth games are not only fun for the children, they also contribute to a broader education for sustainable development (BNE). With a clear focus on learning environmentally conscious values, forest pedagogy promotes social and emotional skills, such as the lwf bayern . Forest pedagogy has developed over the years and now offers complex learning offers that go far beyond the classic forest tour.
In times when the dialogue with society about the future design of our forests is becoming increasingly important, forest pedagogy therefore sets a valuable impulse. She not only motivates children to take part in and take on responsibility, but also enables deeper roots in our natural environment. With activities such as the forest youth games, the young generations bring the forest a little closer and thus promote a generation of nature -conscious people.
