Aggressive bottle attack at Leipzig Central Station ends with arrest

On the night of October 15, 2025, Leipzig Central Station was the scene of an aggressive incident that ended in an arrest. A 21-year-old German got into an argument with another man in the Osthalle around 10:30 p.m. He tried to hit his opponent with a bottle, but he was able to successfully fend off the blows. Than that Federal Police intervened, the attacker fled.

The officers were able to identify and arrest the escapee at the central bus stop. However, the man aggressively resisted arrest, which ultimately led to him being overpowered. On the way to the station, he attacked the police officers with punches and headbutts, which resulted in an officer being injured. At the station, the 21-year-old insulted law enforcement officers and is now facing investigations for grievous bodily harm, assault on law enforcement officers, resistance and insults.

More attacks at the train station

The incidents in Leipzig are taking on worrying proportions. A 49-year-old is in custody after attacking several people at the same train station. First she hit a railway employee with a bag and kicked him before she also became violent against the federal police officers who arrested her. The officers found a broken glass bottle in her bag. The woman had also clashed with mall security and became violent again when items were being confiscated from her. Proceedings are now underway against her for grievous bodily harm and resistance to law enforcement officers, as she has already been wanted several times for similar crimes. The Public Prosecutor's Office requested pre-trial detention.

These incidents come in an alarming context. Studies show that the number of physical injuries in train stations will have increased in 2024 compared to the previous year. By the end of October, around 10,600 cases had been registered, while there were 10,115 in 2023. Thefts have also increased, making the security situation in public transport and train stations even worse. Deutsche Bahn has reacted and plans to massively expand its security measures, including through the use of several video cameras and extensive training measures for staff.

The current situation requires special attention from the police and administration to protect travelers and make public spaces safer. It remains to be hoped that through committed measures the inhibition threshold for violence will soon rise again and the train station will not only become a place of travel, but also of safety.
