The City Tunnel in Leipzig will be closed to train traffic next night. From Sunday 10 p.m. to Monday 4 a.m. there will be a comprehensive operational exercise initiated by the Leipzig Police Department. Numerous actors are involved in this exercise, including the Federal Police, Deutsche Bahn, the Leipzig Fire Department and various emergency services. The aim of this measure is to train the interaction of the emergency services under realistic conditions and to check and certify safety-relevant processes, such as MDR reported.
Train stations such as Markt and Bayerische Bahnhof will also be closed during the exercise. Travelers are urged to find out about alternative connections and possible timetable changes from Deutsche Bahn. Test security concepts
The exercise includes various scenarios, such as rescuing people, traffic safety and emergency care in the city tunnel. The focus is on the tested processes for first aid as well as fire fighting and water extraction in the tunnel. The procedure for breaking into rail vehicles is also being put to the test. Furthermore, the management organization, the operational plan and the communication channels are tested.
