Operational exercise in the city tunnel: Leipzig's rail operations stopped at night!

The City Tunnel in Leipzig will be closed to train traffic next night. From Sunday 10 p.m. to Monday 4 a.m. there will be a comprehensive operational exercise initiated by the Leipzig Police Department. Numerous actors are involved in this exercise, including the Federal Police, Deutsche Bahn, the Leipzig Fire Department and various emergency services. The aim of this measure is to train the interaction of the emergency services under realistic conditions and to check and certify safety-relevant processes, such as MDR reported.

Train stations such as Markt and Bayerische Bahnhof will also be closed during the exercise. Travelers are urged to find out about alternative connections and possible timetable changes from Deutsche Bahn. Visual operational measures in the form of vehicles with flashing lights and sirens at the tunnel entrances can be expected right from the start of the exercise. The police appeal to citizens not to be unsettled by these measures.

Test security concepts

The exercise includes various scenarios, such as rescuing people, traffic safety and emergency care in the city tunnel. The focus is on the tested processes for first aid as well as fire fighting and water extraction in the tunnel. The procedure for breaking into rail vehicles is also being put to the test. Furthermore, the management organization, the operational plan and the communication channels are tested. The joint work of all rescue workers involved is coordinated by a central command center Leipzig newspaper supplemented.

Deutsche Bahn Netz AG is obliged to carry out such exercises every three years. The City Tunnel was chosen as the training location because it represents a central rail connection in the Central German S-Bahn network. This not only tests the efficiency of the emergency services, but also increases the safety of travelers in a potential emergency.
