Heat wave over Leipzig: outdoor pools pronto, schools at their limit!

Summer really gets going in Leipzig! July 1, 2025 will not only go down as the hottest day in the city's history for a long time, but will also bring with it numerous challenges. According to a recent report from the LVZ Temperatures will climb to an incredible 38 degrees Celsius in the coming days.

The situation will be particularly explosive on Tuesday when, despite the oppressive heat of 33 degrees in the city, there is still no significant cooling in sight. In the heat check, Leipzig comes last in Saxony, where the city is particularly badly affected. Cooling down is urgently needed, and so outdoor pools and drinking fountains are expecting a high number of visitors, while at the same time the wine festival starts as planned on Wednesday.

Heat action plan and school problems

At least there is a plan against the heat, even if it is a long time coming. On April 16, the city council approved a heat action plan that responds to a steady increase in hot days in the city. This plan, which will remain in force until the end of 2026, includes measures to adapt to heat in schools, daycare centers and local public transport. Additional funds of 4 million euros are required, which are to be financed from the climate change adaptation budget, such as Leipzig Internet newspaper reported.

The situation at schools in Leipzig is also tense. With nearly 63,000 students enrolled, most educational institutions are overcrowded and almost one in two schools have security deficiencies. In order to address these issues, the city council updated the school development plan. The construction sites in the education system are not just about space bottlenecks, but also about a clear appeal to improve the infrastructure.

RB Leipzig: Transfer phase ready to start

Aside from these pressing issues, RB Leipzig is starting the summer transfer phase. This runs until September 1st and involves personnel changes in all parts of the team. Although speculation about potential new additions is high, it remains to be seen which transfers will actually be implemented. According to Kicker, the plans surrounding the squad are well documented on the official RB Leipzig website and fans will be excited to see which players will join the team.

While the city deals with the oppressive temperatures and challenges in education, the anticipation of a good summer of football and the hoped-for cooling down in the outdoor pools remains unbroken. Citizens are called upon to actively participate in the new measures in order to continue to make Leipzig worth living in, even in the heat.
