Leipzig's new Ostforum: Colorful architecture on Ostplatz!
Something is happening at Ostplatz in Leipzig. A new construction project, the “Ostforum”, is slowly taking shape and is causing a sensation not only in the construction industry. The architect Peter Homuth is behind the project, whose design idea was inspired by a trip to China in 2016. The Adler Group acquired the property from the CG Group four years ago after the Talanx Group withdrew from the purchase of the Ostforum.
A mix of residential and commercial
The Ostforum is not just a residential complex. On the upper floors there are 49 apartments with sizes between 40 and 110 square meters. The basic rents range between 16 and 18 euros per square meter, and leasing of the apartments is scheduled to begin at the end of 2025, with the first move-ins planned for April 2026. Homuth Architects highlights that the construction is sustainably designed, with energy-efficient cooling sails, district heating and photovoltaic systems that provide habitats not only for residents but also for local animals.
The ground floor area will accommodate additional shops, service providers and restaurants and is scheduled to open from mid-2026. An Aldi store with 1,000 square meters of sales space will begin operations in October 2025. Commuters and drivers are provided with an underground car park with 180 parking spaces, 75 of which have electric charging spaces. There are also 250 bicycle parking spaces available, while entry and exit to the underground car park is on Johannisallee.
A park for the city
Leipzig is meeting the challenges of growth with projects such as the Ostforum, which the city has observed since 2012, with an increase of around 10,000 residents annually. The city has invested heavily to improve the quality of life by preserving green open spaces and an attractive urban landscape.
