Aue makes a mistake in the test match: Gladbach scores 3-0 - the comeback begins!
As part of their summer preparation, FC Erzgebirge Aue met Borussia Mönchengladbach today and were clearly defeated 3-0 in a friendly. The game took place in the Erzgebirgsstadion at home and offered the spectators exciting moments, even if the end result was not pleasing.
The relegated team from the Bundesliga, Gladbach, showed from the start that they wanted to prepare optimally in the coming weeks. All three goals in the game came in the first half. Shio Fukuda was the standout player and demonstrated his goalscoring abilities. In the 26th minute he gave the guests the lead with a precise shot from 18 meters. Just eleven minutes later he netted again after being well set up by Kevin Stöger. Franck Honorat rounded off the result with the third goal in the 39th minute, helped by an assist from Phillip Sander. The first half ended with a clear 3-0 for Borussia.
Aue's performance
Despite the clear defeat, there were also bright spots for Aue. The hosts had some good opportunities but were unable to capitalize on them. Ryan Malone was denied by Gladbach goalkeeper Nicolas Omlin and the crossbar in the 19th minute, while Marvin Stefaniak also hit the crossbar in the 22nd minute. Aue didn't allow himself to be completely dragged down and showed some appealing football at times. 16-year-old Wael Mohya also had a chance in the 65th minute, but was unable to prevail.
The Auer's weaknesses were particularly evident in the absence of some key players. Head coach Gerardo Seoane had a limited selection of established attacking forces due to several players being injured or absent. Haris Tabakovic was not in the squad and Tomas Cvancara was also absent as he awaited the completion of his transfer to Antalyaspor. Alassane Plea was sold to PSV Eindhoven, and the injured Tim Kleindienst and Robin Hack also couldn't play.
Looking into the future
Aue is now preparing for the start of the season in the 3rd league. The team has its first home game against Hansa Rostock on August 3rd. Meanwhile, Borussia Mönchengladbach will start the first round of the DFB Cup against Atlas Delmenhorst on August 19th.
Today's test shows that Aue still has some homework to do in order to be competitive next season. The next few days in the training camp in Rottach-Egern will be crucial in order to further shape the team and prepare it for the coming season.
“You have to work on your weaknesses and follow a clear plan,” said the coach and those responsible, who are now hoping to set the course for a successful season. Aue has the potential to do better next time and show that they can fully attack in the third division.
