Discover the art of ceramics: Exciting holidays in the Meißen City Museum!

This summer the craft of ceramists will come to life in Meißen. The city museum is organizing an exciting program for children between the ages of 6 and 12 under the motto “How is ceramics made?” The centerpiece is the interactive special exhibition "Ceramic City of Meißen. Bricks, Tiles, Porcelain", which offers insights into the region's traditional ceramic production. On July 2nd and August 6th at 10 a.m., little visitors can learn more about the famous white gold in the Red School's consultation room. This is offered in cooperation with the TU Bergakademie Freiberg, which is responsible for the higher ordination of ceramic art, while the children can research in a playful way. diesachsen.de reports that the events are both educational and entertaining.

Another highlight this summer are the interactive tours “From Eel Basket to Onion Pattern”, which will also take place on July 9th and 30th at 10 a.m. Here, participants are not only introduced to the history of Meißen, but also presented with some of the museum's special exhibits. The city museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offers parents a great opportunity to explore with their children. Particularly pleasing: entry for children under 7 years is free, and with the Meißner guest card there is a discount of 1.50 euros!

Exhibition and products

The exhibition shows the development of ceramic production in Meißen from its beginnings in the Middle Ages to modern industry. Visitors can not only admire historical finds, but also get to know various manufacturers and their products, including bricks, heavy ceramics and refractory ceramics. You will also learn how raw materials are used to produce ceramics - from pottery to industrial production.
