Ceremonial opening of the new judo hall: Großenhain focuses on sport!
A new milestone in local sport is being celebrated in Großenhain: the ceremonial handover of the modern judo hall at the Rödertal sports hall. Mayor Dr. Sven Mißbach officially handed over the new premises to the club's judokas, who are already looking forward to the upcoming training sessions. The opening took place in the presence of numerous representatives of the city council, the construction companies involved and the judo club, which underlines the communal nature of this project.
After the Judoverein Großenhain e. V. emerged from the Dynamo police sports club in 1997 and has developed into a lively sports community over the years. The club celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022 and can proudly boast 60 members, more than half of whom are young athletes under the age of 18. Previously, the judokas had to train under difficult conditions in the backyard building at Herrmannstrasse 14. But since 2018, the city's sports facility development plan has provided for the creation of a new training facility. Now this plan has been successfully implemented.
A new training room for the judokas
The decision to build an extension to the Rödertal sports hall came after an intensive location search. In June 2024, the city council decided to start construction on the judo hall, which now offers a generous floor space of 657 square meters, of which almost 572 square meters is net floor space. The new building was planned by the Großenhainer planning office Kalex, which was selected after a Europe-wide tender. The extension includes a judo training hall, a social area and a staircase.
Financially, this project will be covered by construction costs of around 2.06 million euros, of which 1.33 million euros come from SAB funding. It is gratifying to know that 82 percent of the construction volume was realized by Großenhain companies, which not only strengthens the local economy but also promotes a sense of community. Construction began in October 2024 and was completed on schedule in October 2025, so that the judokas can use the new hall from December 2025.
The future of judo sport in Großenhain
With the new judo hall at the Rödertalsporthalle, judo sport in Großenhain is experiencing a remarkable upswing. The club can now train under optimal conditions, which will certainly have a positive influence on the sporting development of the members. The close cooperation between the city, the planners and the judo club shows how important it is to work together to promote sport and community.
The new hall will not only be a place for training, but also a meeting place for the judo family in Großenhain. There is already great anticipation for the first training sessions and competitions in the new hall. The judokas are ready to show their skills, and with the support of the city and the population, nothing should stand in the way of the Großenhain judo club's success.
