Customer hotspot: VGM customer center in Meißen back after renovation!

On August 13, 2025, the Meißen Transport Company (VGM) customer center at the bus station reopened its doors after a long period of closure. However, the upcoming renovation work, which originally started on July 24th and was supposed to be completed by August 8th, was delayed. After the extensive modernizations, it was finally time to present the new conditions to the public. The old facility dates back to 2000 and has now been given a fresh, modern design. Important adjustments have been made to improve accessibility: The counter positions have been lowered so that they are now easily accessible for wheelchair users and people with limited motor skills. The flyer wall was also made lower to make information more easily accessible.

The demand is high, and this is clearly noticeable in the first few days after the opening. Many people use the service center to find out about bus and ferry connections or to buy tickets. When school starts, the number of visitors is high, although not quite as hectic as in larger cities such as Dresden. But the snakes cannot be overlooked.

Service offerings in the new customer center

In the VGM service center, travelers can not only receive information about public transport connections, but also find out about popular city tours. You can also find advice on special transport as well as numerous tips on leisure activities in the region. The opening times are customer-friendly and include:

  • Montag: 8.00 – 12.00 / 12.30 – 16.00 Uhr
  • Dienstag: 8.00 – 12.00 / 12.30 – 17.00 Uhr
  • Mittwoch: 8.00 – 12.00 / 12.30 – 16.00 Uhr
  • Donnerstag: 8.00 – 12.00 / 12.30 – 16.00 Uhr
  • Freitag: 8.00 – 12.00 / 12.30 – 14.00 Uhr

During the closure, a replacement location was available at Hafenstrasse 51, which was open to address customer concerns from July 24th. If you have any questions, you can contact the customer center on 03521 732716 or by email at info@vg-meissen.de.

A look at mobility in Germany

The reopening of the customer center in Meißen is part of a larger trend, as mobility in local public transport (ÖPNV) is enjoying growing popularity. According to information from the Association of German Transport Companies (VDV), there has been an increase in passenger numbers since 2022. Buses and trains transport around 26 million passengers in Germany every day. This shows that there is increasing interest in environmentally friendly means of transport, which save around 10 million car journeys every day and at the same time reduce CO2 emissions.

All of these steps and developments paint a positive picture of local public transport and its importance in the mobility transition. With a solid value of 118 billion euros, the sustainable mobility economy is important not only for the environment, but also for the economy. In this context, the newly opened customer center is proving to be an important contact point for everyone interested in mobility in Meißen.

The progress in the region, be it through modernized facilities or the growing use of public transport, is helping to further increase the attractiveness of public transport and convincing citizens to use it. The VGM and its new service center play a central role in this.
