New departure in the Meißen district fire brigade association: Wehner at the top!
In an exciting change at the top of the Meißen District Fire Brigade Association, Florian Wehner has taken on responsibility. On October 25, 2025, the delegates from the district's fire departments met at the Gröditz cultural site to vote on the new management team. A total of 112 of 179 invited delegates appeared at the meeting, which, according to Wehner, was enough for the elections, even if the number of participants was “not quite the desired number,” as he noted in his opening speech. The outgoing board under Frank Ricklin was farewelled with thanks and recognition. Guests of honor such as District Administrator Ralf Hänsel and District Fire Chief Thomas Fischer also gave greetings, praising the successful cooperation over the past few years.
After the votes were counted, Florian Wehner from the Großdobritz Volunteer Fire Department was unanimously elected as the new district chairman. At his side are Michael Reiske from Thiendorf, Marcel Reichel from the Großenhain and Ebersbach fire departments and Swen Mücke from Zehren. The treasurer is Udo Geißler from Riesa, who was also confirmed with only one abstention. The new auditors will be Frank Ricklin, Maik Wahl and Karlheinz Heyne. These new heads are intended to bring a breath of fresh air into the association and tackle important issues on the agenda such as adjustments to the youth regulations and changes to the financial guidelines.
The importance of fire service work
The fire department is an important part of the community in the district. Over 45,000 women and men are involved in Saxony's volunteer fire departments, supported by the State Fire Brigade Association of Saxony e.V., which strengthens and promotes the members in their important tasks. In addition, more than 3,000 officers are active in the professional fire departments, and almost 20,000 young people are involved in children's and youth fire departments. These numbers illustrate the immense support and cohesion that is known to be very important in the fire department.
A look into the future
The new board is faced with the challenge of continuing to overcome the challenges that volunteer work in the fire brigade brings with it and of setting the course for the development of the district fire brigade association. The former board of directors under Frank Ricklin laid the foundation for a stable basis. This tradition of commitment and community must now be continued by the new team.
For Florian Wehner and his team it's now time to bring in ideas, advance the firefighters' concerns and strengthen the community. The Assembly of Delegates has taken the first step into a new era and the course has been set. It will be exciting to see what the future holds for the Meißen District Fire Brigade Association.
