Locking of the B101: Zoff around the rail barrier and gravel mining in Riesa!

In Grossenhain, traffic life is currently anything but quiet. The demolition of the B101 bridge, which officially started on Thursday, ensures considerable impairments in road traffic. The State Office for Road Construction and Transport had already informed the immediate blocking of the bridge on Wednesday, which was classified as dangerous due to cracks and a limited load capacity. Drivers have to prepare for diversions that lead via the S81 and S177, as well as plan some detours through the towns of Lenz, Geißlitz and Großdobritz. The rail traffic between Dresden and Berlin is also affected, which applies from Wednesday evening from 6 p.m. Travelers should expect up to 15 minutes longer. The restart of the route between Großenhain and Kottewitz is planned for December 24, 2024, as MDR.

But not only the bridge brings the region to a standstill. Last Wednesday there was also a defect in the barrier at a level crossing, which could only cross trains at walking pace. Although the defect could be remedied until noon, the flow of traffic was significantly restricted for a few hours. Railway employees braved bravely through the requests from the passengers and regulated the traffic until the situation was defused.

dispute over gravel mining

The local municipal council currently has all hands full, not only because of the traffic adjustments. A dispute over planned gravel breakdowns in Zeithain ensures explosive in the political landscape. A law firm was specially commissioned to develop a statement on the controversial dismantling plans - and this without first obtaining a decision by the local council. The discussions about gravel mining have sparked again and again, and the topic will continue to be on the political agenda in the future. The statement must be submitted to the Oberbergbauamt by mid -July, which is not an end point for the disputes that must now be continued.

nature conservation and puzzle about sea eagle

Another controversial point is the due tree harvest at Radeburg, where conservationists discovered a felled tree with a protected sea eagle base. There are assumptions that the connection with the ongoing wind power maps is not accidental. The old birds always have an effort to find new nesting places, which indicates a dangerous situation for the endangered species. Although several criminal complaints regarding such tree felling have already been submitted in the past, these have so far been unsuccessful in the district of Meißen, according to the statements by the conservationists.

activities in the region

In the meantime, the city of Riesa is planning to give downtown managers Anja Dietel a new function to secure the financing of the inner city management. The current “Living Centers” program expires at the end of 2025, but the new “Living Steel” project could guarantee financing by the end of 2026, which is of great importance for the development of the city.

The challenges are increasing, but the committed action of the communities gives space to hope for a positive solution in the future. Whether street conversions, tree felling or the preparations for a summer party - the topics are diverse and show that there is always a lot in motion in Germany's middle.
