Thomas de Maizière: This is how the state will be able to act again!

On Monday evening, an exciting event of the CDU district association was announced in the house of the church in Meißen. Under the motto "State reform and political responsibility - perspectives for the CDU in times of change", almost 70 guests came together to discuss pressing questions of the political future. The chairwoman Bianca Wunderwald emphasized the importance of the 80 -year -old CDU and emphasized the need to deal intensively with the political mandate.

The focus of the discussion was the former Federal Minister Dr. Thomas de Maizière. As chairman of the expert commission on the state reform, he presented the initiative to restore the state's ability to act. According to [diesachsen.de] (https://www.diesachsen.de/meissen-news/thomas-de-maizerein-meissen-den-staße-flot-machen- 3032973), an interim report was published in March, which contains 30 concrete suggestions. Fortunately, 60 percent of these proposals have already found its way into the coalition agreement of the current government.

important reform proposals

de Maizière explained that the proposals not only target more transparent and innovation -friendly legislation. A particularly central point is the strengthening of education by a national education council. The topics of local politics, European regulations and demographic challenges were also dealt with in detail during the event. De Maizière expressed optimistic about the realizability of the reforms and encouraged the present, pragmatic solutions to be found.

The discussion about the state's ability to act is more current than ever: According to a survey by the German Civil Service Association from 2024, almost 70 % of the citizens believe that the state is overwhelmed with its tasks. Trust in the state institutions has achieved a historical low. This was also emphasized by De Maizière in an interview in which he described the current state situation as "no longer capable of action" (sueddeutsche.de).

a wide alliance for changes

In order to counteract the loss of trust, the "Initiative for a State capable of acting" was founded. In addition to de Maizière, prominent faces such as Peer Steinbrück, Andreas Voßkuhle and Julia Jäkel are also among the initiators of this important initiative. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier acts as the patron of the movement (hertie-school.org). Structural -relevant reforms for the public sector are sought here. The final report of this initiative is planned for the summer of 2025 and will include statements from various social groups.

Superintendent i. R. Andreas Stempel concluded the event in Meißen with thanks for the "plea for pragmatism" and underlined the need to actively shape the change. These words reflect the challenge that is imminent in the current political landscape.

It remains exciting how the proposals for a state reform are implemented in practice and whether they can actually restore the desired trust in the ability to act.
