Döbeln's story you can touch: New book inspires locals!

There is reason to be happy in the tranquil town of Döbeln: the support association of the Lessing-Gymnasium has published a book dedicated to the town's history. Under the title “Discover Döbeln – forays through over 1,000 years of city history,” it invites those interested in local history and history to re-experience the facets of the city’s history. Special news: The book is published exactly eight weeks before Christmas, perfect for anyone who is still looking for a suitable gift. Saxon reports about this initiative.

The school principal Michael Höhme, who is also chairman of the support association, and his team have made a valuable contribution to documenting the city's history. The associated website “Discover chub” was originally launched by Matthias Müller, Höhme’s predecessor. Gerhard Heruth took the first step by writing historical articles for the site. “We have now taken over the site and want to cover two new topics every year,” explains Höhme. The website is enjoying increasing popularity and has already received 100 to 150 hits per day - a significant increase compared to 20 to 30 hits a few years ago.

A look at the Lessing High School

The Lessing-Gymnasium is one of the oldest educational institutions in Döbeln and looks back on an eventful history that dates back to 1869. Today, around 773 students attend the school, which is not only characterized by its diverse profiles, including linguistic and scientific profiles, but is also considered a European school. As the school's sponsor, the city of Döbeln bears responsibility for its development. Wikipedia reports about the rich tradition and the numerous awards the high school has received over the years.

The Lessing-Gymnasium is not only an all-day school, but has also established itself as a “smart school” and “digital school”. Innovative approaches such as bilingual teaching in English are setting new standards in the region. There is also a lively school culture, which is characterized by numerous events and school partnerships with international schools.

A successful collaboration

The support association, which has over 500 members, plays a central role in school activities. He actively supports the school and even runs a school museum. The idea of publishing the book is another example of how closely the school is connected to the town of Döbeln. Michael Höhme and his team have shown a good hand and created a valuable resource that will be important for both citizens and future generations.

With the publication of the book, the support association is setting an example for Döbeln's cultural identity and enriching the understanding of the city's own history. The full contents of the book are already available on the “Discover Döbeln” website, and Höhme plans to continue to keep the city’s history alive.

We can only hope that the book is not only a success, but also encourages many readers to take a closer look at their own city history.
