A major stroke of fate hit the town of Lunzenau in Central Saxony on Wednesday evening. At around 7:30 p.m. a fire broke out in an outbuilding on Feldstrasse, which quickly spread to an adjacent single-family home. A catastrophic water supply made the situation considerably more difficult. According to feuerwehrmagazin.de, the first emergency services were faced with the challenge that there were no functional underground hydrants nearby. In order to extinguish the fire, tank fire engines had to travel from Obergräfenhain, and later a 1.5 kilometer long hose line was laid to a distant pond. Despite the tireless efforts of around 70 firefighters, they were unable to prevent the single-family home from burning out completely.
