Major fire in Lunzenau: Family loses everything – fundraising campaign started!
A major stroke of fate hit the town of Lunzenau in Central Saxony on Wednesday evening. At around 7:30 p.m. a fire broke out in an outbuilding on Feldstrasse, which quickly spread to an adjacent single-family home. As blick.de reports, the roof structure was already in flames when the fire brigade arrived, making extinguishing the fire a challenge.
A catastrophic water supply made the situation considerably more difficult. According to feuerwehrmagazin.de, the first emergency services were faced with the challenge that there were no functional underground hydrants nearby. In order to extinguish the fire, tank fire engines had to travel from Obergräfenhain, and later a 1.5 kilometer long hose line was laid to a distant pond. Despite the tireless efforts of around 70 firefighters, they were unable to prevent the single-family home from burning out completely.
Evacuation and fundraiser
Fortunately, the two residents, a middle-aged couple, were able to get to safety in time and were uninjured. However, the house was uninhabitable and the family lost almost all of their possessions. To help those affected, the city of Lunzenau has set up a donation account. Here is the important information for support:
- Empfänger: Stadt Lunzenau
- IBAN: DE06 8705 2000 3120 0004 33
- BIC: WELADED1FGX (Sparkasse Mittelsachsen)
- Verwendungszweck: Spende Brand Feldstraße
The dense clouds of smoke from the fire also led to a warning via the “Nina” app, which was maintained until Thursday morning until the danger was finally averted. The police have already started investigating the cause of the fire; A fire investigator will examine the scene of the fire.
Challenges during extinguishing work
Despite the fire department's massive efforts, the extinguishing work was jeopardized by sudden explosions of gas bottles and fireworks stored in the building. These unexpected events have further complicated an already critical mission. Fortunately, the fire department's team of more than 70 people were uninjured and did an impressive job to prevent the fire from spreading even worse.
The city of Lunzenau and the entire community stand behind the family and show that solidarity and support are very important in difficult times. The fire department and all the helpers involved deserve our greatest respect!
