Horror crash on the S212: carriage torn apart with six injured!

A serious traffic accident rocked the quiet state road 212 between Sayda and Niederseiffenbach on Monday evening, October 27, 2025. At around 6:30 p.m. there was a devastating head-on collision between a Honda and a fully occupied horse-drawn carriage. The dramatic scenes that unfolded there led to a massive deployment of rescue workers and police officers.

A total of six people were injured in the accident, some of them seriously. The driver of the Honda was traveling towards Niederseiffenbach when he collided with the horse-drawn carriage for unknown reasons. The force of the impact caused the carriage to suffer significant damage, while the car was thrown against a guardrail and came to a halt severely deformed. The occupants of the carriage and the driver were immediately taken to nearby hospitals. Fortunately, there were also passengers who were uninjured but were in shock and were cared for by emergency responders.

Rescue operation in full swing

The incident triggered a mass casualty incident (MANV), meaning that numerous ambulances, ambulances and two emergency doctors were on site. A temporary triage point was set up in a nearby hotel to provide optimal care for the injured. Around 17 comrades from the Sayda and Ullersdorf volunteer fire departments secured the scene of the accident, ensured fire protection and illuminated the area.

The sad result of the accident makes it clear that animals are often also affected in such serious accidents. One of the draft horses had to be euthanized at the scene of the accident due to serious injuries, while the second animal was cared for. The police have started an investigation into the cause of the accident and ensured that all relevant evidence was documented. It remains unclear whether a driving error, distraction or a technical defect led to the collision. State Road 212 remained completely closed for several hours while work continued at the scene of the accident.

The residents and the entire region are shocked by this tragic incident, which once again shows how quickly accidents can happen. In moments like these it becomes clear how important it is to always be vigilant in traffic. Unfortunately, the material damage caused by this accident has not yet been quantified.
