The ceremonial opening will take place at 9:30 a.m. in the St. Anna Miners' Church, where sponsorship checks and sponsorship prizes will also be handed out. A look at the fascinating exhibition facilities
The Radstube Oberschöna, as a technical monument of the Erbstolln underground facility, offers guided tours that introduce guests to the achievements of mining. What is particularly exciting is the presence of the actors from the Halsbrücke ore wash, who show their restored building from 1840 and explain it as an ore stamping mill with a water wheel. Another highlight is the opportunity to experience the functionality of the last largely original water wheel from German ore mining in the Turmhofer Pochwerksrad through a model.
Those interested in technology have the opportunity to experience a visual insight into the engine room at the Drei-Brüder-Schacht, while the reel machine of the Brand-Erbisdorf Historical Mining Association is presented at the Bartholomäusschacht. Here visitors have the opportunity to go down to a depth of 25 meters.
The Freiberg mining landscape and its significance
The Erzgebirge/Krušnohoří mining region is not only known for its impressive mining tradition, but has also been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Since the first mining town of Freiberg was founded in 1168, mining has played a gigantic role here. Silver mining led to an economic boom that inspired the construction of new towns such as Annaberg and Schneeberg. Over time, other raw materials such as tin, copper and iron were added, making the region an important center for the supply of raw materials.
The deep roots of mining in the region are also reflected in the founding of the Freiberg Mining Academy in 1765, which is now the oldest mining scientific educational institution in the world that still exists. Family businesses and traditional associations continue to maintain the mining heritage, which promises not only historical techniques but also unforgettable experiences for current and future generations.
The region also speaks of an active club life that takes care of the preservation of the mining historical structures. Events such as traditional mountain parades and historically inspired hikes attract not only local visitors but also many tourists.
Whether for inquisitive people, families or history buffs - the exhibition facilities in the Erzgebirge offer a journey through time that allows you to experience the magic of mining. Take advantage of this opportunity to explore this unique heritage!
So, pack your hiking boots and head to the Ore Mountains. The mining tradition is just waiting to be discovered!
