The cause of the problems is, among other things, parallel construction sites. Last but not least, the waterworks are active in the city and make access to the new apartments considerably more difficult. The situation is tense because water was also observed entering the underground car park and the basement area, which is related to the settlement of the new building. However, residents of the historic parts of the paper mill report that they are not affected by any of these difficulties.
Those responsible for the project emphasize that the problems raised only affect a few apartments and are doing everything they can to take the complaints seriously and find solutions. At a time when the housing shortage in Germany is becoming increasingly noticeable, especially in large cities, the construction project in Schkeuditz symbolizes the challenges of the current housing market. The traffic light coalition has set itself the goal of creating around 400,000 new apartments every year. But as the latest statistics show, construction volumes in 2024 fell by 14 percent compared to the previous year, calling into question the achievement of these goals.
