Garbage problems with clothing containers: DRK is planning drastic measures!

What is currently happening in Northern Saxony? As the LVZ reports, an increasing waste problem in used clothing containers is causing discontent. Jan Schweiger from DRK Delitzsch reported that the containers are increasingly filled with rubbish. This situation forces the DRK to possibly stop collecting clothes. A decision on this should be made next year. In Torgau, containers have already been permanently removed due to similar problems.

It is important for residents of the region to know where they can drop off their clothing donations. The city of Delitzsch has several locations for used clothing containers, including:

  • Johannes-R.-Becher-Straße 28 (gegenüber Konsum)
  • Eilenburger Chaussee 7

Military areas and mushroom harvesting

Another point that concerns the region is the planned reuse of former military areas, including the military museum in Kossa. The Ministry of Defense has announced that these areas will be used again in the future, but the exact details are not yet known. The regional dialogue on this is eagerly awaited.

While there is uncertainty in one area, nature shows its positive sides. The mushroom season in northern Saxony was affected by the drought, but has shown signs of recovery thanks to the recent autumn weather conditions. There is a good chance of finding porcini mushrooms, chestnuts and even rare species, especially in the Dahlen and Düben Heaths. Nature lovers should take advantage of their luck and perhaps plan a trip to the forests.

Economic developments and shortage of skilled workers

But it's not just nature that's on the move. Saint-Gobain has announced that it will resume glass production in Torgau by 2027. This decision secures around 300 jobs in the region. Employees who are currently on short-time work should be fully committed again from February 2026 to prepare the glass tank. A ray of hope in the current economic situation!

In order to counteract the shortage of skilled workers, the Hubertusburg specialist hospital has hired five new nursing trainees and at the same time taken on six graduates in permanent jobs. These measures are crucial to ensure the quality of local health care.

In summary, there are many topics that currently concern Northern Saxony. From waste problems in used clothing containers to challenges and opportunities in the economy to the return of mushrooms - the next few weeks could be exciting!
