Water removal ban in Saxony: Dürre forces to consider!
Landkreis Meißen, Deutschland - The continued drought in Saxony has serious consequences, which now also affect water withdrawal from above -ground waters. From now on in the district of Meißen there is a strict ban on water with a ban on water, streams and lakes, which remains in force until October 31, 2025. This prohibition, which was introduced with a new general order, prohibits the use of pumps or hoses for water withdrawal. Violations are punished with sensitive fines of up to 50,000 euros, as reported [MDR] (https://www.mdr.de/nachrichten/sachsen/Trockenheit-wasser-verbot-fluss-see-100.html). The district office appeals to all citizens to take responsibility and to avoid interventions in nature.
But Meißen is not alone. In the district of Zwickau, too, the water withdrawal was imposed due to falling water level - for example in the Zwickau Mulde. Here, too, the ban applies until the end of October 2025. It is striking that despite the lack of water, water is often pumped out for watering, which further tightens the situation. In the district of Görlitz, a ban has been issued for several waters since the end of June, which could be expanded depending on the level. The Lausitzer Neisse, which currently has worryingly low water levels, is particularly affected.
long -term challenges
In the district of Bautzen, a general ban on water has been in force since 2019, in which only "hand vessels" are allowed. Here, too, one is warned of the challenges of the drought and hopes for long -lasting rains to defuse the tense situation. In addition, there are similar measures for discussion in other counties such as Leipzig and Freiberg, which shows that the problems are far -reaching: sustainable solutions are necessary to ensure water supply in the future.
The causes of drought are diverse. High evaporation rates and missing rainfall, especially on hot summer days, lead to decreasing levels. According to the city administration of Dresden, the groundwater levels are currently in the normal fluctuation area, but are about 40 cm below the monthly average of the past 17 years. At the moment, no additional restrictions are necessary for basic water use, but careful handling of water is advisable. Citizens are asked to use rainwater for watering and preferably to minimize this in the early morning or late in the evening to minimize evaporation losses, so Dresden.
The measures make it clear that the water shortage must be taken seriously - this is the only way to ensure that this precious good can be dealt with.
