Volunteering 2026: Up to 2,000 euros for local projects in the district!

In the coming period there will be exciting news from the Free State of Saxony that will be of particular interest to committed citizens. The Free State of Saxony has decided to provide funding from the municipal volunteer budget in 2026 to support volunteer work and promote civic engagement. According to Pirna District Office, applications for grants can be submitted to the district administration until December 9, 2025.

The financing is not something to be despised. Grants starting at 500 euros are possible, and the supported projects can receive funding of up to 90% of the costs, up to a maximum of 2,000 euros. Applicants must budget 10% of the total costs as their own funds. Various measures can be supported, such as recruiting and motivating volunteers, public relations work to promote voluntary work, and training and further education for committed people.

Important deadlines and funding criteria

In order to benefit from the funding, the funding applications must be submitted by applicants in the Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains district and the funding must also apply in the district. The district council will decide on the procedure for appropriating the budget on November 24, 2025 so that support for committed citizens can begin quickly. “We want to maintain, strengthen and further develop volunteer work,” said a spokeswoman for the district office.

The list of measures that can be funded includes, among other things, events to recognize voluntary work and the purchase of necessary equipment or technical devices. The district office has continuously developed the criteria for funding since 2018 and application documents are also available on the district office website.
