Young undertaker opens in Berggiesshübel: Sustainability for the farewell!
A new funeral home will be opening in Berggiesshübel from November 1, 2025, which will be run by 33-year-old Francie Adrian. This initiative could bring a breath of fresh air into an industry that is often stuck in old traditions. Francie has wanted to become a undertaker since she was 15 and, after a lot of effort, she has now made her dream come true. Although she initially couldn't find an apprenticeship and worked in finance and insurance, she never gave up. Today she is a proud entrepreneur and her mother has now joined her as an employee.
Meanwhile, Francie Adrian is also planning to open a main branch in Königstein, which is scheduled for February 2026. She sees both Berggiesshübel and Königstein as crucial locations, as Königstein in particular suffers from a lack of undertakers. The renovation work in Königstein is currently delayed, which is why the Berggiesshübel rooms are temporarily being used as a warehouse and office.
Innovative funeral offerings
Creativity and sustainability are at the forefront of Francie Adrian's offering. The special product range includes, among other things, biodegradable coffins, such as the pine coffin with a chameleon finish. A real eye-catcher is the world's first coffin made of mushrooms. This mushroom coffin can be made from local mushrooms and recycled hemp fiber within seven days and completely disintegrates within 45 days of burial. Adrian also offers urns made from the same material, which are also made by a Dutch company. Such innovative approaches could not only challenge traditional funeral thinking, but also inspire a new generation of mourning arrangements.
Interest in new forms of burial is increasing. According to information from Sächsische and the associated inquiries and applications, there seems to be a rethink in society to take place. More and more young people are taking the topic of death seriously and want to address it openly. This also includes a generation of undertakers who are ready to break the taboo. An example of this is the well-known Louis Bauer, who worked in the family business at the age of 13 and thus already serves as a role model for the potential of young undertakers.
The change in the funeral industry
The environment for Francie Adrian's ventures could hardly be more favorable, as the undertaker profession is not legally protected in Germany. A simple business registration is enough to start a company. This enables creative minds like Franco Adrian to develop and offer new concepts. Her vision goes beyond just burial: she wants to help people make their farewell more individual and offer the variety of their coffins and urns.
Those interested can find more information about the coffins on offer, such as the design coffin “PUR”, which is biodegradable and has been awarded for its minimalist style, directly from your company. So there are several good reasons to look forward to the upcoming opening on November 1st!
