New roof for Sebnitz Clinic: Millions approved for renovation!

What's happening in Sebnitz? A huge giant crane is currently visible on the premises of the Asklepios-Sächsische Schweiz Klinik. This is part of a comprehensive renovation of the flat roof, which is unfortunately badly damaged after almost 40 years. Water is penetrating in several places, which is why the clinic now has to take urgent action. The Asklepios Group is investing an impressive 1.7 million euros from its own resources in the urgently needed roof renovation. Despite the efforts, the application for funding was repeatedly rejected by the Ministry of Social Affairs in Dresden, which did not make the situation any easier.

The construction work has already reached the second phase, and the third and final construction phase is planned for 2026. The planned installation of a photovoltaic system on the renovated roof is also exciting. This is not only intended to improve the clinic's energy balance, but is also a further step towards sustainability.

Interior design and patient numbers

But the renovation is not just limited to the roof. Extensive renovations are also planned for the interior. An important point here is the move of the Hohwaldklinik, which is expected to move into the new, completely renovated rooms of the Asklepios Klinikum Sebnitz from January 1, 2028. The application for funding for this interior renovation was approved. However, the funds have not yet been released and the construction and architectural services have already been put out to tender across Europe.

In order to cope with the increasing number of patients, the clinic plans to further expand its capacities by 2026. Ideally, the number of patients should reach or even exceed the 2019 level by the end of the year. For this reason, the clinic is intensifying the exchange with resident doctors and continuing its series of patient seminars. There are also plans to open a day clinic for geriatrics, which will be implemented in close coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs in Dresden.

A look into history

What does this have to do with the name Asclepius? In Greek mythology, Asclepius is the god of medicine, representing the healing aspect of the medical art. He is known for being able to even resurrect the dead before being killed by Zeus to control humanity. Asclepius is a symbol of healing in many cultures and is often depicted with a staff entwined with a snake. This shows the deep connection to medicine, which goes back to ancient times and lives on in modern symbols such as the medical symbol.

The Asklepios Clinics not only stand for state-of-the-art healthcare, but also carry a legacy that is deeply rooted in history. In this way, not only is a roof being renovated in Sebnitz, but a piece of tradition is also being continued.
