School renovation in Bannewitz: Millions invested in modern education!

In Bannewitz, the anticipation of the start of school is accompanied by noticeable construction noise. While the students enjoy the summer holidays, the craftsmen are using the quiet weeks to begin extensive renovation work on the “Am Marienschacht” school complex. The first construction phases have already started successfully, and Mayor Heiko Wersig can proudly announce that the second phase has been inaugurated. The investments have so far amounted to 1.5 million euros, and the goal is clear: the school should shine in new splendor by the time the work is completed in August 2026. Sächsische reports that the construction work is divided into three sections, including the replacement of old windows and the installation of solar panels to make the school building more environmentally friendly.

Given the current state of renovation, it is important not to disrupt the children's learning rhythm. From August 11th, over 600 students will be returning, and with them the challenges that come with dust and noise during construction work. In order to ensure everyday school life, a spatial concept was developed that enables rooms in the after-school care center to be used as classrooms. This means that lessons and support can continue despite the construction site. Some classrooms have already been renovated and the ceilings have been soundproofed - these are steps in the right direction.

Funding for future-oriented projects

A particular focus of the renovation measures is on financial support from the Free State of Saxony. On August 21st, Minister of Education Christian Piwarz will visit the “Am Marienschacht” primary and secondary school and present a funding notice totaling three million euros. These funds come from the state program of the Free State of Saxony and are intended for the conversion and renovation of the existing building. According to information from Medienservice Sachsen, the total costs of the construction project amount to 6.1 million euros, which underlines the importance of investing in the educational infrastructure.

The funding is part of a larger plan that not only focuses on structural changes, but also improves building quality. Corresponding programs also support the training of teachers, all-day programs for students and the integration of disadvantaged groups. This ensures that all children and young people in the region receive the best possible educational opportunities. Sachsen.de provides information about the numerous initiatives to promote school projects that benefit particularly gifted or disadvantaged students.

The commitment of the community and the Free State in Bannewitz shows how important it is to invest in the future of education. The coming years will be crucial in determining how these investments impact the learning environment and educational opportunities of future generations. With a total of six million euros for the renovation, a big step has been taken towards a modern and sustainable school building.
