The situation for pedestrians in Sebnitz on Hohnsteiner Straße could soon improve. As the Saxon newspaper reported that there is no safe sidewalk between the roundabout at Brückenschänke and the Hainersdorf district. This gap poses a serious risk to pedestrians traveling along this route.
Residents are particularly concerned because there are numerous important facilities in the immediate vicinity of Hohnsteiner Straße. These include a Netto market, Rossmann, a drinks store, a bistro, a riding stable and a daycare center. The density of destinations makes it even more important to make this street safer for pedestrians.
Planned examinations
Mayor Ronald Kretzschmar announced that the city would now like to consider building a sidewalk. A planner was commissioned to examine the possibilities and conditions for a sidewalk along Hohnsteiner Straße. The wish is that this footpath should extend from the roundabout to the Amthainersdorf train stop.
However, there are some challenges: In places, the space for building the sidewalk is limited, which makes planning more complicated. The city has already received an offer for the investigation, which will cost around 5,000 euros. The city council will have to decide in the next budget discussion whether this amount will be allocated.
