Storm chaos in Saxony: lightning, squalls and fire devils approaching!

The storm front that passed over Saxony on Monday caused significant damage in some places. The cities of Dresden, Glashütte and Lauta were particularly affected by wild lightning storms, heavy rain and strong squalls. This is what colleagues reported Sächsische.de that the fire brigade was in constant operation in several places.

In Lauta, for example, lightning caused a house fire on Conrad-Blenkle-Straße. The lightning set a tree on fire, which then spread to a gazebo and adjacent sheds. This led to the two buildings being completely burned out and significant soot damage to the house. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the fire department raised an alarm level 2 to help quickly.

Storm and its consequences

In Chemnitz-Einsiedel, too, the storm didn't do things by halves. Several trees were uprooted, including a large tree that fell directly onto the roof of the local high school. The main street was closed for a while while the fire department was on duty with chainsaws - here too, the residents were uninjured.

In Zittau, the storm also caused chaos with fallen trees, especially in Zwilling-Scholl-Straße and Kummersberg. But here too, the emergency services were quickly on site and were able to repair the storm damage without anyone being injured.

The situation was particularly dramatic in the state capital Dresden. On Monday morning at 6:47 a.m. lightning struck the roof of an apartment building on Bolivar Street. The fire department was on the scene quickly and showed no mercy against the flames in the roof area. They had to work both from the inside and with a turntable ladder to contain the fire. Luckily there were no injuries; All residents were able to get to safety in time.
