Fog trap in the Vogtland district: Be careful when visibility is below 150 meters!
Today, October 2, 2025, the citizens of the Vogtland district were warned by the German Weather Service (DWD) that fog will significantly reduce visibility between 6:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. In many affected areas, including Elsterberg, Pöhl and Plauen, visibility of less than 150 meters can be expected, which represents a real challenge, especially for drivers. The DWD therefore recommends adapting your driving behavior accordingly and exercising caution when navigating through the fog. A second fog warning for the period from 4:15 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. is also in effect, before the fog should largely disappear by midday, according to forecasts from wetterfähren.de.
The current weather pattern brings cool and dry air, influenced by a high over northwestern Russia. As news.de reports, light frost of up to -1 degrees in the morning can also be expected, especially in the eastern regions and in the low mountain ranges. From Friday night, stiff gusts with wind speeds of up to 60 km/h could occur on Sylt and Helgoland from the southeast, which could further complicate the already severe weather situation.
Severe weather warnings and future forecasts
Looking ahead to the coming days, an increased tendency to fog is also possible in the eastern half during the night of Friday. The problem of fog and frost is underlined by responsible weather observation, which provides information about different weather elements such as gusts of wind or heavy rain. According to NDR there is a clear classification of weather warnings into four levels of danger, with fog being rated in the first level.
The weather forecasts are continuously updated. If you would like to find out about the current weather situation in the Vogtland district and beyond, you should keep an eye on the DWD website, where all warnings are displayed by district. Even if visibility is limited in the morning, the DWD is optimistic about the midday hours, when the fog should largely disappear and fresh, clear air permeates the region.
