ATM blasted in Limbach-Oberfrohna-perpetrators on the run!
Limbach-Oberfrohna, Deutschland - in Limbach-Oberfrohna, a small town in Saxon region, there was a spectacular ATM blast in the early morning. Unknown perpetrators lit an explosion that badly damaged the ATMs, but also several other machines of the branch. The exact amount of the damage is still unclear, but it can be assumed that the effects are significant. After the crime, the perpetrators quickly disappeared into a dark, highly motorized car with matt paint, which saw witnesses to drive away in the direction of the highway. The incident has led to a temporary closure of the bank branch, while a building agent must now check the building for possible damage. The criminal police call up the population to collect further information on the escape vehicle and its inmates.
A look at the recent past shows that this is not the first incident of this kind in Limbach-Oberfrohna. At the end of May 2023, two ATMs were already blown up in the city. At that time, the perpetrators captured huge 250,000 euros. Today, on June 20, 2025, a trial runs in front of the Zwickau district court, in which two men from the Netherlands, 22 and 27 years old are charged. While the 27-year-old explosed the machines with two strangers, the perpetrators fled with an Audi A6, who later had a breakdown. The men had no choice but to walk on on foot. The 27-year-old was finally picked up by car by the 22-year-old. So far, however, only 130,000 euros have appeared from the prey, which also puts the authorities under pressure.
ATM blasting - a growing problem
The explosions of ATMs have become a burning topic in Germany in recent years. As the bka , it is a phenomenon that is constantly increasing. The perpetrators are often aggressive and use technical devices to carry out the explosions. Most attacks take place in remote locations, usually at night or early in the morning, to maximize the effects of the explosion and to facilitate the escape. Here, gas mixtures or even fixed explosives are often used, which significantly increases the danger for residents and passers -by.
The regional focus of these acts is located in the federal states near the Netherlands, especially in North Rhine-Westphalia. According to the data of the BKA, over 50 percent of suspects are Dutch citizens. This is a major challenge for the local law enforcement authorities, especially in a context in which the number of offenses tends to increase. In 2021, 392 ATM sprinkles were registered in Germany alone - an alarming trend that requires quick action. In order to counteract this, the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the BKA signed a joint statement to combat these crimes in November 2022.
It remains to be seen how the Situation in Limbach-Oberfrohna is developing and what new knowledge the ongoing process will bring. The citizens of the region are required to be vigilant and pass on clues to the police to prevent further offenses.
