Kebap grill at Zwickau's main market: When does it finally start?
Something is happening in Zwickau city center: the conversion of the former “Schuh-Winkler” on the main market into a kebap grill is called “Taste of Kebap”. Despite the initial euphoria, the opening still has to wait. Landlord Kurt Fliegerbauer had originally expected it to start in March. Now we are in June and the doors remain closed. Mehmet Kaplan, the operator of the restaurant, had set his sights on a new opening at the end of May, but this has not yet taken place, reports Free press.
The people of Zwickau are divided on the idea of the kebab grill. As the Radio Zwickau reports that Mehmet and his brother Ibrahim have been working on remodeling the restaurant since January. The facade already proudly bears the name “Taste of Kebap”. With a total of 30 years of experience in the industry, the two restaurateurs bring a lot of know-how with them. Anyone looking forward to freshly prepared meat over charcoal will get their money's worth here; There is also space for 80 guests on two floors.
Approvals as an obstacle
Despite the Zwickau residents' anticipation, the planned opening appears to be dependent on the granting of a building permit. The town hall's press office has announced that the required documents are not yet available in full. Fliegerbauer has already submitted this and is now waiting for approval from the responsible authorities. Once all the notices are in, the opening could take place in about a month if everything goes smoothly.
Gastronomy is an economic factor in Germany that should not be underestimated. In 2022, the industry achieved record sales of over 67 billion euros, according to the statistics site Statista reported. Many people from Zwickau are looking forward to a new opportunity to spend some of their free time with good food and socializing. Eating out is still one of the most popular leisure activities - around 60 percent of couples and young families enjoy it.
Healthy nutrition and sustainability
In times when many people are increasingly paying attention to sustainable and healthy nutrition, food-based gastronomy is booming. The demand for freshly prepared food, which may even be freshly grilled on the charcoal oven, is unbroken. So Zwickau could be the ideal place to capture this culinary joy while supporting local traditions and gastronomy. If approvals are granted quickly, Taste of Kebap could finally become the meeting place for lovers of good food.
Let's stay optimistic: Maybe the kebab will soon taste good in the heart of Zwickau!
