Cultural highlight: Zwickau Museum Night enchants 1,200 visitors!

Last Saturday evening, October 25, 2025, the doors of numerous cultural institutions in Zwickau opened for the popular Museum Night. Under the motto “Singing, dreaming, marveling and experiencing culture”, the event was a complete success, as around 1,200 visitors set out to discover the diverse offerings. How erzgebirge.tv reported that a total of ten institutions in nine locations took part, including the newly reopened city archives and the historic cotton mill.

In the old cotton mill, the focus was on the exhibition “Sun Seekers – Art and Mining of Wismut”, which was on display for the last time this weekend. Here, those interested in art and history could admire the close connection between art and the industrial past. Things were no less exciting in the August Horch Museum, where the history workshop of the Alten Gasometer e. V. presented a special exhibition on women in automotive history. The 1970s and 1980s in particular were the thematic focus of these programs.

Diverse program

The evening featured a wide-ranging program: a festive audience singing took place in the Gewandhaus - initiated by MDR-Klassik, while St. Mary's Cathedral offered a special atmosphere with bedtime songs and nightly tours to the gravesites. The more than 100 guests not only enjoyed the music, but also the inviting setting of the historic building.

The city and council school libraries attracted many visitors with a large tour through the city library, including around 200 interested people. The city archive, which is now located in the new premises of the former savings bank building, offered three tours that were fully booked due to high demand. Visitors had the opportunity to discover curious finds from the history of the archive.

Another attraction were the medieval priests' houses, which featured the special exhibition “1525. Peasants at War”. Special demonstrations by the Thuringian Knights' Association e.V. enabled guests to immerse themselves in the historical topic. In addition, the ZWICKAU ART COLLECTIONS Max Pechstein Museum and the Plauen-Zwickau Theater had exciting contributions in the program, which also included the video installation “Equilibrium of the Invisible” presentation.

Arrival and tickets

To enjoy the extensive cultural offerings, visitors had the opportunity to use historic buses and trams that ran between the various museums and institutions. Ticket prices were 8 euros for adults in advance and 5 euros reduced, children up to 16 years of age had free entry. Like the city administration on their website published, tickets were available from September 30th and the use of public transport was recommended, even if the Museum Night ticket did not include free use.

In conclusion, it can be said that the Museum Night in Zwickau was not only a feast for the eyes and ears, but also a wonderful opportunity for all those interested in culture and history to experience the diversity of the city up close. The positive feedback from visitors and the large number of participants speak for themselves and give hope for a repeat next year.
