Saxony Monopoly: A game full of surprises and regional treasures!

Since Tuesday the time has finally come: The Saxony Monopoly saw the light of day and is causing excitement among board game fans and Saxony lovers. The official presentation took place in the August Horch Museum in Zwickau, where managing director Florian Freitag from “polar 1” was present as co-developer of the game. “We consciously chose places that reflect Saxon identity,” explained Freitag. Instead of classic streetscapes, players can now play their rounds of Monopoly in Oberlungwitz, Dohna in Saxon Switzerland or Jahnsdorf in the Erzgebirge. An online vote in February determined which locations should be included in the game, and the feedback was enormous: a total of 76,000 votes were cast, with 4,000 voting for Dresden as the most valuable city in the game, in the style of the legendary Schlossallee.

The game is not only a must for Saxony fans, but also a nice homage to the region. The train stations in the game were replaced by Saxon excursion destinations, including the Sachsenring and, of course, the August Horch Museum. Another special detail are the event cards, some of which have been translated into Saxon - this provides additional charm and authenticity. The demand seems to be huge: there were over 5,000 pre-orders before the official start of sales. You could choose from 10,000 copies produced, more than half of which have already been sold.

Saxon cities in the spotlight

When selecting the cities, the development team focused on a balanced distribution. After Dresden, which takes first place, Leipzig follows as a valuable city. Chemnitz, Zwickau and Plauen occupy the green street fields. An exciting mix that takes both long-established and lesser-known places into account. As Florian Freitag emphasizes, the game not only shows the diversity of Saxony, but also invites you to deal with the cultural and historical significance of the region.

The Free Press Saxony is proud of this development. Especially in view of Saxony's problems and challenges, the Saxony Monopoly is an entertaining way to discover the beautiful sides of the state. As is well known, Saxony has a rich history that dates back to the Middle Ages and included numerous political entities. The heritage comes to life with the largest cities such as Leipzig and Dresden, which are still important economic and cultural centers today.

A game that connects

The game of Monopoly is not only attractive to the residents of Saxony, but could also attract tourists looking for their own piece of Saxony. The region has now established itself as an important tourist destination and offers a variety of historic cities, impressive castles and beautiful nature. The Saxon hiking country has its own appeal, which is also reflected in the game.

The decision to determine the venues through voting includes another successful element of the community. This gives people in Saxony the opportunity to cast their vote and take an active part in shaping their region. The Saxony Monopoly is therefore not just a game, but also a creative link to the region.

High demand and numerous inquiries from intermediaries show that this game is generating great interest. It is gratifying to see that such a traditional media format like Monopoly can be reinterpreted while at the same time celebrating Saxony's identity and culture. Can the region's shortcomings be excused by such a game? Certainly not. But it definitely offers entertaining access to an extremely diverse region.
