Experience Miner's Day: Rositz celebrates 350 years of mining!
A very special festival will be celebrated in Rositz on Sunday, July 6, 2025: Miner's Day, which this year has the motto “350 years of the first mention of mining in Rositz”. They load from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m
Meuselwitz-Rositzer lignite mining district mining brotherhood, the municipality of Rositz and the mining, chemical and energy industrial union Altenburg residential groupto celebrate the region's mining heritage and tradition.
The event takes place in the picturesque Bernsteinhof Rositz and promises a colorful program for young and old. The starting signal is a mining-musical morning pint at 10:00 a.m. From 11:00 a.m. there will be a small mineral and mining exchange, while the local barn of the Rositz local history association will open its doors from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and present a special exhibition on the topic of “Rositz businesses”. You can also look forward to tours with the old Landini and in the afternoon to a performance by the dialect group from the “Zwergenstübchen”.
A celebration for everyone
Another highlight is the concert by the Zeitz brass musicians, which starts at 3:00 p.m. There is a wide range of activities for younger visitors, including a bouncy castle, a treasure hunt and painting briquettes. The gastronomic offering is impressive: homemade cakes, roasts and steaks from the local judo sports club and the mountain brotherhood are on the menu. And the best part? Entry is free!
This celebration is aimed not only at the citizens of Rositz, but especially at the friends, craftsmen and employees of the former coal industry. It is an invitation to meet old friends and maintain ties to the mining tradition.
Mining highlight in the region
The region can look back on over a hundred years of brown coal mining history. Those interested already have the opportunity to get involvedTechnical museum on the museum track of the coal railway in Meuselwitzto look around. Technical systems, mining exhibits and historical trains are on display there, illustrating the exciting development of mining. The mountain brotherhood's permanent exhibition includes, among other things, the history of energy production from brown coal and the development from open-cast mining to briquette factories.
The museum is open every Sunday, with scheduled coal railway trips from around 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Individual tours are possible by prior arrangement, and entry is free here too - however, donations to preserve the mining tradition are warmly welcome.
