New generation of trainees in the Altenburger Land: The starting signal!
On September 5, 2025, the time had come: District Administrator Uwe Melzer welcomed the new trainees to the Altenburger Land District Office. This celebratory gathering is not only an important highlight in the training year, but also a sign of the constant growth of new talent in the administration. Melzer took the opportunity to congratulate the recent graduates Angelina Graulich and Annie Fahr on their successfully passed exams.
Angelina and Annie completed their three-year training as administrative assistants on July 31, 2025. While Angelina works in the basic security, housing benefit and other benefits department, Annie works in the social assistance department and brings a breath of fresh air to the district office departments.
New faces in training
But it's not just the newcomers who are good news. On September 1, 2025, four new trainees started their careers in the district office. Antonia Kastell and Emma Freitag are beginning their three-year training as administrative assistants and are showing interest in a versatile and future-proof career. In addition, Arian Müller begins his training in the senior non-technical service, while Marius Werrmann begins his training as a road guard.
The training to become an administrative assistant is aimed at young people who enjoy dealing with other people and are interested in the legal framework of administration. According to the Alb-Donau-Kreis website, the training is carried out in around 20 district office offices, combined with theoretical lessons at a vocational school. The duration of training is generally three years, but can be shortened to 2.5 years under certain conditions.
Career opportunities and salary
What awaits the new trainees? They are used in a variety of areas, including administrative work, where they have direct contact with citizens. The tasks range from processing driving license applications to granting social benefits to registering motor vehicles. The salaries of the trainees are as follows:
| year of training | Monthly salary |
|---|---|
| 1 year | €1,293.26 |
| 2nd year | €1,343.20 |
| 3rd year | €1,389.02 |
Those responsible in the district office see training as an essential task to ensure the district administration's ability to act. This is particularly important because the profession of administrative assistant is not only crisis-proof, but also one of the best-paid training courses in Germany. Many employees find long-term and stable jobs here, especially in the public sector.
Application and requirements
Anyone interested in training should submit their applications by September 15th of the year before the start of training at the latest. Among other things, the necessary prerequisites mentioned are secondary school leaving certificate or an equivalent school leaving certificate and an enjoyment of dealing with people. The ability to work in a team, a sense of responsibility and a certain degree of curiosity are also required.
Overall, developments in the Altenburger Land district office show that the need for well-trained specialists is high for the coming years. It is obvious: training is not only a challenge, but also the opportunity for a fulfilling career in public administration.
