In many places in the city, outdated light bulbs are being replaced with modern LED signaling devices. These new signals not only offer better visibility, but are also significantly more energy efficient, as MDR reports.
However, the work could lead to traffic delays. From Monday, the people of Erfurt will face further traffic jams. This week, traffic lights at important locations are affected: Schillerstrasse, city park, train station underpass and Binderslebener Knie. In order to install the new signaling devices, the traffic lights must be temporarily switched off, which slows down traffic. At the same time, it is expected that individual lanes will be closed and the speed reduced to ensure the safety of all road users.

The conversion work has already started in the week of January 20th to 24th, 2025, with a planned end at the end of May 2025. One node is being processed per week and the conversion usually takes three working days. Road users have no choice but to take alternative routes, as wide detours are recommended. Backlogs could lead to problems, particularly at peak times, which is why special attention and attention to the changed traffic routing is required.
