Filming in the Erfurt Zoo Park: Animals first, episode soon in Kika!
In beautiful Erfurt, the zoo park is bustling with activity. Part of the third season of the popular show “Elephant, Tiger & Kids” was just filmed there. The exciting lives of six young people who are completing an internship in various German zoos are accompanied. But the filming was not without excitement. Filming regularly had to be interrupted when animal emergencies occurred. Zoo veterinarian Tina Risch reported on stressful days of filming, in which both a rhea that had hit its head on the fence and a donkey with an ulcer on its hoof needed medical help. “The animals have priority,” says Risch, and that is exactly what was emphasized during filming. The good news: The animals in the zoo park are now doing well again and filming was successfully completed. The finished episode will be broadcast on October 2nd at 8:10 p.m. on Kika and in the ARD media library, as Thüringen24 reports.
But there is even more news from the lovingly run zoo park. A very special visit recently took place: Djehuti, also called Judy, left the Erfurt Zoo Park to meet her breeding partner, tomcat Zambezi, at the Münster All-Weather Zoo. Hopes are high that Judy will return pregnant and that Erfurt will become part of the European Endangered Species Breeding Program (EEP). Breeding partner Zambesi is an experienced tomcat, and the first encounters between the two were promising. On average, female cheetahs only come into heat once a month, and the time was perfect for mating. After a gestation period of around 90 to 95 days, one to five young animals can be born. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we will soon be able to admire cute cheetah offspring at Erfurt Zoo! More information can be found on the Zoopark Erfurt website.
The profession of zookeeper
While “Elephant, Tiger & Kids” sheds great light on work in the zoo, training to become a zookeeper plays a crucial role. Animal keepers look after animals in various facilities such as zoos, animal shelters and breeding farms. The training lasts three years and is dual, i.e. practical work in the company and theoretical training at vocational school. The zookeeper's tasks include feeding, cleaning and documenting animals, as well as assisting with veterinary examinations. It is a job that requires both a lot of responsibility and talent.

The job as an animal keeper is not only exciting, but also challenging. The training requires physical resilience and a good knack for dealing with animals. Anyone interested in such a profession can find out more on the Ausbildung.de website.
In summary, it can be said that the Erfurt Zoo Park not only implements exciting media projects, but also actively contributes to the breeding and preservation of endangered animal species. The great collaboration between the animal keepers and the veterinarians shows how important animal and species protection is in our time. If you would like to be part of the next filming of the series or take care of the animals, you should definitely stop by the zoo park!
