ZooReh in Erfurt: Young people discover the life of a zookeeper!

In the first Juneoisophy, young and old were able to look forward to an exciting project in the Erfurt Zoo. Between the 2nd and 6th June, a camera team from the MDR made the new season of "Elefant, Tiger & Kids". The format is an offshoot of the popular series "Elephant, Tiger & Co." And accompanies six young people who do an internship in the zoo. These should get to know the multifaceted world of animal care and face both the positive and the challenging aspects of the profession. Training compass , the daily care of the animals is only part of the profession. Animal keepers are responsible for feeding and cleaning the enclosure, ensure an appropriate water supply and monitor the health of the animals. In addition, they support medical care and help to promote the well -being of the animals by stimulating their natural behaviors.

The interactive element is just as important: zookeepers have contact with the zoo visitors, answer and hold up educational programs. In addition, they are often integrated into breeding programs for endangered species, a task that turns out to be more important because more and more animal species are threatened in their natural habitat.

a new phase of life for Judy

Another exciting event in the Erfurt Zoo is the move of Djehuti, called Judy. On February 6, the cheetah female traveled to the all -weather zoo Münster to meet Kater Sambesi there. The trip is intended to ensure that Judy returns with a praise and becomes part of the European Conservation Breeding Program (EEP). Judy and Sambesi have been paired several times, there is hope for a wearing.

In nature, cheetahs are increasingly endangered by loss of habitat and poaching. That is why Zoos play a crucial role in the long -term protection of these unique animals. The prerequisites for a birth in the outdoor and interior of the zoo have already been hit. The first results of this exciting journey are expected according to Zoopark Erfurt in mid-August.

The cooperation between zoos, nature conservation organizations and governments is crucial for the preservation of healthy cheetah populations and their protection in the wilderness. The challenges are great - however, a responsible breeding is of the greatest importance, not only for Judy and Zambesi, but for the entire kind.
