Fire brigade festival in Gera-Mitte: fun for the whole family!

On Saturday, August 26, 2025, the Gera-Mitte volunteer fire department at Freitagstrasse 64 for an atmospheric fire brigade festival. Between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., guests can expect a colorful program that not only celebrates the history of the fire service, but also focuses on the community.

A highlight of the event will be the presentation of a new emergency vehicle. But even the little ones don't miss out: there's plenty of fun to be had with attractions such as duck fishing, ball games and a fire brigade bouncy castle. In addition to a craft station, children can whiz around in bobby cars. In the evening there is an enchanting lantern parade, which rounds off the festival in a festive way. Your physical well-being is taken care of with a hearty pea soup from the field kitchen, and the Sandman visits the children at 7 p.m. The festival's motto, “Without the middle, you're missing something,” underlines the importance of the fire department and its role in the community.

A look at the youth fire department

The FF Gera-Mitte is particularly committed to young firefighters. The youth fire department currently has 19 members who are learning the basics of firefighting. This training includes laying hoses, extinguishing fires and rescuing people - important skills that are not only crucial for the emergency department, but also promote teamwork and movement.

To become a member of the youth fire department, children must be at least 10 years old and have a certain level of physical fitness. The focus is always on having fun with the activity. Even if no new members can be accepted at the moment, those interested can find out about future opportunities at wf-mitte@gera.de.

Child safety and community

In parallel to the efforts in Gera, the Dinslaken fire department a similar concept. The children's and youth fire brigade is offered there for younger generations aged 6 to 17. The activities aim to create awareness of fire safety and personal safety and to strengthen the solidarity of the camaraderie.

With a varied program and participation in regional competitions, the youth fire brigade is also an important part of fire brigade life in Dinslaken. The large number of children and young people shows how important commitment to the fire department is for the community.

The upcoming fire brigade festival in Gera-Mitte is not only an opportunity to experience the fire brigade up close, but also a chance to find out about the important work of the young fire brigades and to celebrate the community. All in all, a full day for the whole family where no one goes out dry - that's Gera-Mitte!
