Big festival in Gera: Open Monument Day attracts with highlights!

On September 14, 2025, a very special occasion will be celebrated in Gera: TheOpen Monument Day. Organized by the German Foundation for Monument Protection (DSD) and the city of Gera, this largest cultural event in Germany offers numerous highlights for residents and visitors. At 11 a.m. the stage program in front of the Culture and Congress Center (KuK) opens its doors, including a welcome by Professor Dr. Mario Voigt, Thuringia's Prime Minister, and Kurt Dannenberg, the Mayor of Gera. The event will be moderated by the well-known Franziska Schenk from MDR.

An exciting program will characterize the event: the bandAtafravawill provide musical highlights, while a discussion will focus on the topic “How can monuments be filled with life?” is discussed. A festival mile with a family-friendly program is being created in front of the KuK. On theMarket of OpportunitiesVisitors can talk to regional actors in monument preservation and find out about various offers.

Variety of monuments and actions

A total of 42 monuments will be open to the public, including objects opened for the first time. Here, interested visitors have the opportunity to look over the shoulders of craftsmen and restorers.

There is a special promotion for families: With a stamp card, parents and children can walk through the city center and to various stations. The Open Monument Day is not only a local event, but also part of theEuropean Heritage Days, which take place in many European countries.
