New illustrated book and exciting events: Gera shines in November!
There is news in Gera that will captivate both locals and visitors. Today, November 13, 2025, city life will be enriched by exciting projects and events.
A highlight is the new illustrated book “Gera – Old Town – seen anew”. The talented photographer Ruby Golde and tour guide Uwe Lehmann have put together 72 pages full of impressive photographs with great dedication. The trilingual volume in German, English and French shows not only well-known buildings, but also hidden places, parks and historical relics that Gera has to offer. It offers a delightful journey through the city's past and present that should definitely not be missed ( OTZ ).
Cultural highlights in the METROPOL cinema and theater
The METROPOL Kino Gera has planned a varied film program. Among the new releases we can expect the French comedy “The Perfect Gift”, which deals with family chaos in an amusing way. Another highlight is the film “The Life of Wishes”, which shows how Felix Niemann realizes his dreams and encounters unexpected challenges. For fans of the extraordinary film there is a preview of “Death is an Asshole”, a documentary about a Berlin funeral home. In addition, the Witches of Oz say goodbye with the finale “Wicked: Part 2” and the documentary portrait “Jane” about Jane Goodall starts with never-released footage ( OTZ ).
The theater also has some notable performances on the program. “The Unstoppable Rise of Arturo Ui” premieres on November 14th at 7:30 p.m. A comparison with the 35th anniversary of the Gesellschaft der Theater- und Konzertfreunde Gera on November 15th at 2:30 p.m. is certainly permissible - especially since a ballet classic like “Sleeping Beauty” also comes on stage at 7:30 p.m. on the same day. And if that's not enough, we're looking forward to the 331st foyer concert with the baroque ensemble Olibrio Galante on November 16th at 11 a.m. as well as the puppet theater "Little Red Riding Hood" at the same time ( OTZ ).
Competent information events and musical highlights
On November 14th from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the Left Party will be represented with an information stand at Markt 12a. There will also be an exciting lecture about Heinrich Posthumus at 8 p.m., followed by another lecture about the Zaufensgraben and legends at 6 p.m. These events show how steeped Gera is in history and what importance it attaches to its own past.
A concert with master pianist Seonghyeon Leem will take place on November 15th at 7:30 p.m. in the Palais-Saal Bad Köstritz. Tino Fuchs will also be offering free admission to the Großsaara Church on the same day at 4 p.m. - but donations are requested. The musical diversity of Gera is simply impressive!
Monument to Heinrich Posthumus Reuss
Particular attention is paid to the monument to Heinrich Posthumus Reuss, which was commissioned in 2007. This light artistic design shines on approx. 30 x 40 meters on Johanniplatz and is laid out directly above the foundation walls of the former St. John's Church. Lines of blue light make large leaded glass windows visible. A red glass ribbon with Heinrich Posthumus' confession of life restores the connection between the old church and the high school ( Ingo Guettler ). This not only takes into account its importance, but also the history of the city. Heinrich Posthumus Reuß was not only an important son, but also made a decisive contribution to the development of the city by, among other things, founding the first grammar school.
The combination of history, culture, science and art in Gera shows how worth living this city is. With its rich heritage and lively events, Gera remains well worth a visit and this November promises to be an unforgettable one. Gera, located on the banks of the White Elster, is not recognized as a university town for nothing and is an important place in the central German metropolitan region ( Straight ).
