Journey of discovery: Open Monument Day in the Gotha district!
On September 14, 2025 it will be that time again: The Open Monument Day is at the door. This year the event has the motto: “Valuable: priceless or irreplaceable?”. Around 40 properties will open their doors at a special event in the Gotha district. The goal The aim of the event is to give visitors an understanding of the diversity and historical significance of the monuments.
From homes to churches to museums and memorials – the selection of participating properties is large. There are also numerous accompanying events, including concerts, exhibitions and church services, to round out the cultural experience. What's particularly appealing is the opportunity to experience the city from a new perspective and discover hidden treasures.

Some of the highlights that await visitors are:
- Bad Tabarz: Heimatmuseum mit einer besonderen Sonderausstellung und Blasmusik von 10 bis 17 Uhr.

A call to participate
The Open Monument Day has been coordinated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection since 1993 and this year celebrates a variety of over 9,000 events in around 6,000 listed objects nationwide. All activities offered are mostly free of charge and can be easily accessed online. The central opening ceremony takes place in Gera and is part of the European Heritage Days.
