Five years of blooms: Orangery friends donate €5,000 for plants!

On September 14th, the “Orangery Friends” in Gotha received significant support for their valuable work. The association proudly handed over a check for €5,000 to Jens Scheffler, the park manager of the Thuringian Palaces and Gardens Foundation. These funds will be used to purchase 16 new planters for laurel and citrus trees. This measure is part of the ongoing effort to maintain and beautify the Baroque Orangery, a true jewel of the region.

The Gotha Orangery, with roots dating back to 1711, is one of the largest and most beautiful baroque orangeries in the German-speaking region. According to the plans of the master builder Gottfried Heinrich Krohne, Duke Friedrich III. of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg built the current facility between 1747 and 1774. Since 2007, the “Orangery Friends” have purchased over 600 plant boxes and pots in the historic style, 90% of which were purchased through their own financial efforts and donations from events. And the commitment is having an impact: with an annual replacement requirement of around 10 plant containers due to rot and vandalism, the garden culture is constantly being kept alive.

Events for the community

But the association's activities are not limited to nursing work. On September 27th, visitors can look forward to a very special event: from 7 p.m. the comedy “Breakfast at Monsieur Henri’s” will be presented in a club cinema. A real treat for cinephiles and friends of light entertainment. The “Orangerie Friends” also invite you to the Oktoberfest dance in the “Orange House” on October 4th from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets for both events cost €12 each and are only available in advance at the Matthias Hey Citizens' Office at Hauptmarkt 36. The proceeds from these Tatar events will go towards renewing the lighting in the orangery ground floor - a necessary step to ensure that the historical splendor continues to shine.

The Orangery is not only a place of beauty, but also a cultural meeting place that is kept alive thanks to the commitment of the “Orangery Friends”. Historical images showing the Orangery around 1920 testify to its rich history and the importance it has in the region. It will continue to be a place where tradition and modernity meet, and the upcoming events offer the perfect opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of this unique place.

For anyone who would like to find out more about the Orangery and is interested not only in the events but also in the historical and cultural significance, the Orangery's official website offers a lot of information: Orangery Gotha.

Overall, the commitment of the “Orangery Friends” shows how important the interaction between community and culture is for the preservation of such sights. If you are also interested in the Orangery, stop by and enjoy the upcoming events!
