A worrying incident occurred in Greiz on October 13, 2025: a fire in an apartment building that was presumably caused by arson. Loud MDR Investigators determined that two strollers were set on fire on the ground floor of the stairwell and in the basement. The police found no evidence of a politically motivated background to the incident and ruled out technical defects as the cause of the fire.
Nine of a total of 21 residents were slightly injured in the fire. Six of them had to be taken to hospital for treatment but have since been released. The affected people were initially accommodated in a gymnasium and have now been accommodated by relatives. The material damage amounts to around 50,000 euros. The house is currently not habitable as soot and damage needs to be removed.
